Bulan, Sorsogon, October 3, 2009: The Bulan National High School(BNHS), one of the biggest public high schools in Sorsogon Province, played host to the 11th Division STEP Skills Development and Competition 2009 from October 1-2, 2009.
Public high schools from all over the Province or Division of Sorsogon sent student-contestants in the different Technology and Entrepreneur Skills categories to compete with one another to choose the provincial representatives to the next Regional STEP Competition in January. STEP is an acronym for Student Technologists and Entrepreneurs of the Philippines. Competitors, together with their coaches, came from the towns of Donsol, Pilar, Castilla, Sorsogon City, Irosin, Casiguran,Barcelona, Magallanes, Matnog and from the different high schools of Bulan like BNHS, JP Laurel HS, Otavi HS, Alcoba HS, San Juan Bag-o HS, Gate HS, and Beguin HS.
Mrs. Bernie C. Despabiladero, Education Supervisor 1 for EPP/TLE, who was in-charge of the whole proceedings, in her message to all the participants, emphasized that the aim of such an undertaking is to enhance skills and competencies among students. She also said that students and teachers must develop that desire for excellence in education, and that our students today may soon be productive members of the society.
Dr. Nancy Bajamundi, the BNHS Principal, thanked the Division Superintendent, Dr. Marilyn Dimaano, thru Mrs. Despabiladero, for again letting the school be a host to such a prestigious competition, and that despite the lack of amenities on the part of the school, it has lots of hospitality to offer.
Mayor Baby De Castro was also invited to the activity and she was represented by the Municipal Information Officer, Antonio G. Gilana. The Division presented her with a plaque of appreciation for all the support the local government unit has extended to the Department of Education in Sorsogon.
