October 8, 2009, Bulan, Sorsogon: The DOH and the Provincial Health Office, in coordination with the Bulan LGU-RHU conducted on October 1 and 7, the Women’s Health Team Seminar for all the public health workers of the municipality to capacitate the local government unit to deliver quality women’s health and safe motherhood services. Sixty-five (65) women’s health teams (WHT), with each team consisting of a municipal midwife as the team leader and with the barangay’s volunteer health workers (BHW) and traditional birth attendant (partera/hilot) as members, shall undergo this seminar. These teams shall constitute the organization of the network of Women’s Health and Safe Motherhood Teams under the supervision of the Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Estrella Payoyo.
The two-day course introduces the WHTs to a.) the Women’s Health and Safe Motherhood Project 2 and how it operates at the community level, b.) their basic functions in improving women’s health and assuring safe motherhood, c.) the tools they will use in accomplishing their tasks, and d.) the benefits that they may derive from the project and beyond.
These sixty-five teams were divided in three batches. The two other batches are to be trained on October 27-28 and October 29-30.
