BULAN RHU IS PROVINCIAL CHAMPION FOR GARANTISADONG PAMBATA; BEGINS TB PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN

October 7, 2009, Bulan, Sorsogon: A ten-year consistent highest performance in implementing the DOH’s Garantisadong Pambata Program was the main criterion that made the Bulan Rural Health Unit the provincial winner among the fourteen towns and one city in Sorsogon Province. And it was just an ordinary feat for the Bulan medical team that has been in the forefront of dedicatedly delivering primary health care to Bulaneno children.

For this the Bulan RHU, led by Municipal Health Officer Dr. Estrella Payoyo, received a trophy and a cash reward of P2,000.00. RHU Irosin and RHU Sta. Magdalena received the second and third places, respectively.

Garantisadong Pambata is a special DOH program/strategy done twice a year during April and October. The DOH provides the RHUs with the needs for Vitamin A and Iron supplementation to children 6 months to 71 months of age, deworming, weighing and salt-testing in all households. It is up to the RHU to make sure that there is compliance by all households in the locality. And Bulan RHU did just that for ten years in a row!

Meanwhile, the RHU TB Team is once again on the active move by starting a PPD testing in all barangays of Bulan for children with tuberculosis contact in their family and surroundings. The strategy is to screen, determine and treat children who might be positive or at risk of tuberculosis. The tests and medicines for these children are free and are available at the Bulan RHU center in Barangay Obrero.
